I passed the SSCP exam the first time using this book to study for it

I chose this SSCP certification study guide book out of several other ones. This book is definitely among the best SSCP study guides currently on the market. From my personal experience, I highly recommend it to any IT professional preparing for the SSCP exam and as an IT security reference book.

I used this book as the ONLY preparation material to study for the SSCP exam (nothing else, no "prep course" or anything else) and passed the exam the first time. This is the only book that one will need in order to be prepared for the SSCP exam, as long as one has solid IT security knowledge and work experience and only need to "brush up" on IT security topics that are covered in the exam. If you DO NOT have this prerequisite IT security knowledge and work experience, then I candidly recommend that one uses this book AND other resources (such as other SSCP prep guides, "prep courses", etc.) to adequately prepare for the SSCP exam.

This book definitely is the best SSCP prep guide for the money. It is very well written and the co-authors of this book clearly demonstrate that they are very knowledgeable about the technical aspects of IT Security that are covered in the SSCP exam. This book is very well organized and the chapters are arranged by the 7 core bodies of knowledge (CBK's) that are covered in the SSCP exam, making it easy to prepare for it by CBK and to understand ahead of time exactly what materials will be covered. Besides being an excellent SSCP prep guide, it is also an excellent reference guide, after one is SSCP certified.

Excellent Test Prep Guide!

Not only is this book a great test prep guide, but its organization also makes it great for reference. The presentation of the SSCP CBK material is very clear and to the point (no fluff). Overall, I'm very pleased with this book, much more so than another SSCP test prep guide that I purchased prior to this one ("SSCP Study Guide and DVD Training System" by Jeffrey Posluns). I would recommend it not just to those who are preparing for the SSCP exam, but also to those who are seeking simply to broaden their security knowledge and understanding.

About the Author:

This book is the culmination of Catherine’s career as landscape designer and educator. For many years, her sought-after design/build practice - Boussard Garden Design - focused on large residential properties. With her professional practice course she addressed a big void in the curriculum for landscape designers - how to build a profitable business.

She is a recipient of the Harvard Landscape Institute’s Distinguished Faculty award and has been an acclaimed lecturer at  numerous conferences including those of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers.

Catherine is a graduate of Radcliffe’s Program in Landscape Design, is APLD-certified, and holds an MBA. Her earlier career was in marketing/sales in the corporate world and as associate professor of marketing and strategy.

unaware or forgetful of best industry practices

As landscape designers we often find ourselves working somewhat in isolation, unaware or forgetful of best industry practices. The Thriving Landscape Designer reconnects us with every aspect of what we love to do, from the psychology of managing clients' expectations, to very practical and useful concepts such as municipal approvals and preparing budgets for your clients. Catherin's inclusion of personal stories and experiences lend the book a human and very readable flow. She is remarkably generous with her vast experience and shares specifics in costs, profitability, and process from initial client meeting, through the design process and installation, to invoicing and reconciliation. The valuable information contained in these pages is often lacking in the curricula of Landscape design programs. It is a must have, not only for those of us just beginning careers in the green industry, but also the established and experienced among us.

Heard Catherine speak and immediately went out and got the book. I have been in the landscape business for a number of years and it still gave me new ideas of how to improve many aspects of my business. Very easy to read and implement.

Exceptional Book for Landscape Designers of All Levels

This book presents a well-rounded examination of key elements for a successful career in landscape design. It is extremely well organized, and the writing succinct, not verbose. Using pages filled with stories, examples, case studies, graphics, and work site photos Catherine clearly communicates her points. The writing is very much like an engaging “how to” book rather than like a dry business school textbook. Of particular note are the chapters on managing risk and the installation team as they relate to the overall project success.

I am an experienced designer, have been in business for almost 15 years and have worked with the author. Catherine retired at the top of her game, culminating with this book publication. I took Catherine’s Professional Practice Course (from which much of this book seems to have been developed), about mid-way in my career so some of the material was familiar. However my business has evolved and grown since then. I find a great deal in this book to consider and apply to my work going forward and have sticky notes marking several sections which I plan to reference.

Completely Enjoyable

This is the second book I've read by Susan Johnson and it won't be my last. The author combines accurate historial detail (missing from so many historical romances)with a passionate and steamy love story. I much prefer the hero in this book to Adam Serre in Pure Sin. Adam never seemed to lose his cool reserve...while Johnnie falls head over heels for Elizabeth and the love between them is incredibly touching.
My only criticism of this book would be the hurried ending. The story seems to shift from J&E to his younger brother and Roxane (probably to pique interest for their book, To Please A Lady).
Highly recommended!

A beautiful love story

Do not believe the reviews that say this book is just about sex only! This book does have numerous hot, scorching love scenes, but that's only one of its good qualities. The hero is loyal, honorable, sincere, protective, stops at nothing to keep his heroine safe from harm & happy. About 1/2 way through the book, they declare their love for one another - this doesn't happen in most romances - in most of the ones I've read, the declaration of love is left for the last few pages of the book.

This book had a lot of historical detail, and it was clear to see that Susan Johnson put in time and effort on her historical tellings. The characters are people you care about, and I want to read Robbie's & Roxane's story very soon. It did not bother me that they were prominently featured in the last couple chapters of the book - at that point, Johnnie & Elizabeth weren't ready/able to have physical relations, so why not let Robbie & Roxane have a go at it? I thought it was brilliant.

Other characters I love are Redmond, Elizabeth's friend & former bodyguard, and Munro, Johnnie's cousin. I have no idea if either of these fellas has his own book or not, but I sure hope so!

Another thing I liked about this book was how Susan Johnson showed us that Johnnie was a hardened rake. She didn't just mention it in passing, she showed us scenes of him in the act. (And that role playing scene with one of his mistresses was super hot!). As far as Johnnie & Elizabeth's scorching love scenes went, I loved both the scenes with the dressmaker, the scene with the bedpost, and the scene with the jewel :)

This book had everything - romance, adventure, history, and erotic but not offensive love scenes. I didn't miss the fact that the book, for the most part, isn't technically 'funny'. If you are looking for an out & out humorous read, this isn't the book for you. And, this isn't a cookie cutter, milquetoast romance. This book was excellent, and on a scale of 1-10, it would be at least a 12 for me. Highly recommended. Earns its 5 stars and then some.

Sexy & Romantic!

This is ine of the best SJ novels I have read, in fact my favourite after Brazen.
Johnie has a hard time commiting to Elizabeth and fools around with a lot of women in the first half, but once he marries Liz, becomes a devoted and faithful husband, and the story turns very romantic.
The only problem I had was with the last part of the book, as the attention shifts to Johnie's brother and his lover, who are the protagonists of the sequel to this novel.
Other than that, the book was very erotic as well as romantic.

Traders in the Ancient Mediterranean presents a framework on which to hang ancient Mediterranean buying, selling, and transporting of goods. In five focused chapters, each written by a field expert, Traders in the Ancient Mediterranean offers a diachronic analysis of the ancient Mediterranean trader from the Late Bronze Age (1500-1100 BCE) through the Roman Imperial period (27 BCE-400 CE). The book focuses on local traditions, embedded historical context and socio-political goals of traders as individual actors, to provide an analysis of the impact of trade on ancient Mediterranean life beyond the traditional boundaries of the economy. As a result, two main types of behavior are analyzed, inter-regional and regional. The political and social developments of the Late Bronze Age and the Hellenistic and Roman periods, characterized by the rise of large multi-regional empires such as Assyria, Babylon, New Kingdom Egypt, Seleucid Syria and Ptolemaic Egypt, facilitated increased volume and demand for long-distance, extra-mural trade. Alternatively, the regionalism of Early Iron Age communities such as the Greek, Etruscan and Phoenician city-states tended to encourage focused exchange onto smaller, local networks to such as degree that larger structures, and longer distance trade were slow to form and thrive. A conclusion that all regions share, however is that ancient Mediterranean traders maintained a general disregard for the “laws” of supply and demand. Their behavior was dominated by intense official interference (and even competition) by revenue-hungry political entities. Consequently, for the ancient trader and the consumers he (or occasionally she) serviced, the prices of movable goods were always volatile, high risk was always a factor, and the integration of markets into an ordered economy superficial and tentative.

About the Author
Timothy Howe teaches at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. He is Associate Field Director of the Antiochia ad Cragum Archaeological Project (ACARP) in Southern Turkey, has excavated and supervised field programs in Cyprus at the Mycenaean Bronze Age site of Kalavassos Aghios Demetrios and Neolithic site of Tenta, and has excavated in Greece at ancient Sparta, Corinth, and the Athenian Agora. He has written over 20 articles and book chapters as well as four books on the archaeology of Mediterranean agriculture and trade, Alexander the Great, ancient Mediterranean warfare, and Greek and Latin historiography. He also serves as Senior Editor for the ancient studies journal The Ancient History Bulletin.

While it carries no edition statement, this book has been published since at least 1990. The author's intent was to compile a quick-reference handbook for use by travel industry personnel. As a former travel agent, tour company representative, and travel industry instructor, Dervaes relied upon her experience as the gauge for determining the style and content of this work. The idea is excellent; unfortunately, the book misses its mark. It contains a concise specialized dictionary, with brief definitions of travel terms and abbreviations. For example, pool route is defined as "When two carriers share equally their facilities, total revenues, and borrow planes and crews from each other." STCR is a code for "stretcher passenger." Many of the 6,000 terms defined are common words that could be found in a standard dictionary: brothel, cavern, harbor. Appendixes contain time zone and metric conversion charts, international clothing sizes, a smattering of geographic world facts (major rivers, deserts, ship canals, islands, continents), all of which can be found readily in commonly used reference sources.
