The best book I've seen about Tsalagi

I stumbled across this book while browsing Lulu's website. I was delighted to finally find a textbook of the Cherokee language which presents a balanced approach to reading, writing and speaking Tsalagi, AND the grammar and structure of the language. Other available materials tend to give you words and phrases to memorize and "regurgitate" without giving much information at all about the grammar of this complex polysynthetic language, OR teaching you how to write in Sequoyah's wonderful syllabary (if they even introduce the script at all). Michael Joyner's book, used in conjunction with his website (and the CD-ROM also available from Lulu), teaches sounds and writing- giving the handwritten forms of the letters- and gives a gradual introduction to the grammar and structure of Tsalagi. It's not complete yet- this is intended to be the first volume of a series, I gather- but is the best introduction I've found- not to say the most reasonably priced!

Excellent Book!

This has by far been the best book for the Cherokee language! It is so good for learning the basics of the complex Cherokee verbal system. Using a simple vocabulary, this book teaches the reader how to form sentences and phrases in Cherokee, a skill which was lacking in another Cherokee lesson book I purchased. I highly recommend this book to beginners in the Cherokee language. However, I do hope to see a second edition soon, as I get the feeling this book is intended to be the first of a series. Well done!

Cherokee in my past

I actually had not started on the exercises in the book, but had pulled up the internet sites and purchased primary lined paper to practice with. I was showing my book to my sister (several relatives visiting) and my 10 year old niece asked what kind of book we were looking at. I showed her and she took over it immediately by getting paper and pencil and practicing the syllabary and definitions. Her first attempt at the syllabary were perfect, I couldn't believe it! She learned so much using your book this weekend, that I let her take it home with her. I am now going to order another for me. Thanks for providing an educational experience for a little girl who didn't know she was doing something educational, it was too much fun showing off to everyone.

Dr Nicholson discusses the application of such methods as the theory of games to problems of relationships between states, catastrophe theory to the study of initiation of violence, and probability theory to the question of the probability of nuclear war.

About the Author
Mark Breslin has four generations of contracting in his family. His great grandfather, grandfather and dad were all contractors. Mark has served as the Executive Director of the Engineering and Utility Contractors Association, (EUCA) for the last 22 years. EUCA is a multi-employer bargaining group that represents hundreds of firms, performing billions of dollars in contracts annually in California. Prior to this, Mark worked in the trades himself, financing both his high school and college educations. Mark became an Executive Director at age 26, becoming one of the youngest in the US to hold this position at the time. He has acted as chief negotiator, arbitration specialist and contractor advocate for the past 20+ years, negotiating over 100 master agreements. The association he works for represents only union contractors and has had this operational philosophy since inception. Known for his blunt and uncompromising style, Mark has made presentations on labor-management relations to over 100,000 labor, management and rank and file union members across the US and Canada. These presentations range from small group training programs to keynote speeches for over 2500 people. He has trained several union and management representatives on business development and market share recovery strategies in both the US and Canada resulting in hundreds, if not thousands, of new contracts being signed and relationships being built. He works with nearly every major International Union and dozens of employer associations throughout North America. Mark graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in Industrial Design and has since taught at Sonoma State and Golden Gate Universities. His interests include mountaineering, adventure travel and being a good dad. He is married and lives in Dublin, California with his wife Susan and children Ally, Micheala and Jordan. His three books Organize or Die , Survival of the Fittest, and Million Dollar Blue Collar are in wide circulation in both the US and Canada. Over 70,000 books have now sold. Common sense for dummies.

Once again I felt the it was another good common sense book from Mark Breslin. I like his straight-forward approach to spelling it out. I got a few like nuggets of good information and a little reaffirming that I'm doing a decent job of most things. Sometimes just peddling as fast as you can isn't enough. It's worth the read.

Das Internet hat lediglich - wie jedes neue Medium in der Vergangenheit auchdie Debatte über Qualität im Journalismus neu entfacht und ihr gleichzeitig eine neue Wendung gegeben: Die typischen Eigenschaften des Internet ermöglichen es theoretisch jedem Menschen, sich journalistisch zu betätigen. Diese Tatsache wirft Fragen auf, mit denen sich zuvor nicht auseinandergesetzt werden musste; so zum Beispiel: Ist der ehemals passive Rezipient, der sich bisher höchstens durch das Verfassen von Leserbriefen am publizistischen Prozess beteiligt hat, heute ein potenzieller Konkurrent des Journalisten? In der vorliegenden Arbeit nun soll solch ein Konkurrenzprodukt - ein nutzergeneriertes Nachrichtenportal - auf seine Qualität hin überprüft werden. Wenn der User nämlich wirklich ein ernst zu nehmender Konkurrent des klassischen Journalisten ist, erhalten die Themen „Journalistische Qualität“ und „Ausbildung von Journalisten“ eine noch höhere Relevanz als bisher. Denn wie sonst wenn nicht durch höhere Qualität und Professionalität sollen Internetauftritte von renommierten klassischen Medien neben den Privatangeboten auf dem Markt legitimiert werden? Vor der Untersuchung liefert die Arbeit im ersten Teil einen geschichtlichen Abriss über die Entwicklung der Qualitätsdiskussion seit dem 17. Jahrhundert und setzt sich mit den Schwierigkeiten auseinander, welche bei der Formulierung allgemein gültiger Qualitätskriterien bestehen. Außerdem wird das von Günther Rager generierte vierdimensionale Modell journalistischer Qualität vorgestellt. Im zweiten Teil liefert die Arbeit eine Zusammenfassung über die Besonderheiten journalistischer Qualität im Netz und stellt kurz das - professionelle und private - Nachrichtenangebot im Internet vor. Anschließend wird die Qualitätsuntersuchung des nutzergenerierten Nachrichtenportals Stern Shortnews anhand des zuvor beschriebenen Qualitätsmodells von Günther Rager durchgeführt.

Robotech What if....?

This book is about the uncompleted/cancel TV series Robotech: The Sentinels. To bad Matchbox back out of funding the sentinels series. The sentinels would have World War II in space. It was supposed to answer any questions that the first Robotech series left like,"What happen to Rick and Lisa Hayes"?, "Where is Dana Sterling and the 15th squadron"?, and many more questions. This book has some of the outlines/scripts of how the series would have gone. Also, there is some animation arts and draws of new mecha that would have appear in the new series. If you are a fan of Robotech or anime fan you should check this book out.

After owning Robotech Art 1 for ever and a day, picking up Art 3 for my collection was a given. Great read, while not as detailed as I wanted in regards to the mech's, but overall a great book.

Robotech: The Failed Sentinels Series

The primary focus of this third installment of the Robotech Art books is the art and planned storyline of the failed series, Robotech II: the Sentinels. For an "art" book, this one is rich in text. However, if you are a die hard Robotech fan, this is the only reliable source of information concerning the series and its development (or lack thereof). I for one recommend it if you want to round out your Robotech collection.

About the Author
David Byfield graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, Toronto, Canada in 1979 and has since been in private practice and chiropractic education. He is currently a Principal Lecturer, Head of the Chiropractic Division in the Department of Professional Education and Service Delivery, the Faculty of Health, Sport & Science and Head of the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic at the University of Glamorgan.
David holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Biology from the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada (1974) and an MPhil degree from Southampton University, Southampton UK (1998). David holds Fellowship status with the College of Chiropractors and the Faculty of Rehabilitation and Chiropractic Orthopaedic, Associate Member of the Sports & Exercise Faculty, Fellow of the British Chiropractic Association and Founding Fellow of the European Academy of Chiropractic. He written two popular chiropractic textbooks (Chiropractic Manipulative Skills, 1st ed 1996 & 2nd ed 2005 & A Manual Therapist’s Guide to Surface Anatomy and Palpation Skills, 2002) and in addition has also published a number of scientific papers in the peer-reviewed literature and a number of book chapters covering diagnostic palpation, spinal manipulation, low back syndromes and functional rehabilitation.
David Byfield is also an invited speaker at a number of professional and interdisciplinary meetings and conferences worldwide. He is currently an elected member of the General Chiropractic Council in the UK and currently sits on their Education Committee and Communications Advisory Group.

Irish Potato Famine

Absolutely one of the BEST books in this series. It was surprising for me to find that McClintock, famous for her YA mysteries and thrillers, was the author. This is her first historical fiction and her reason and connection to the genre is explained in the author's note; I certainly hope she offers us more. This is a story of the Irish Potato Famine from boarding the ship until one year later in Canada. The book takes place first on the ship then in Montreal and finally ends in Sherbrooke. The book concentrates on the devastating hardships the Irish faced during this time when they turned to Canada for a new life and instead found disease, death and profound prejudice. Johanna tells her story as she struggles with losing her family, working as a servant and being called lazy, filth to her face. The book is suited for the upper age range of this series as it is powerful and deals heavily with death, of children, over and over. Irish literature is often known for its moroseness and McClintock has followed suit with this story. The ending makes the tough going worth the read though. A well-written, emotional period piece.
